Your mandate is not to choose a candidate for us – CPP tells EC as they sue the commission

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in Ashanti Region has filed a lawsuit against the Electoral Commission (EC) for permitting someone they claim is not a member of their party to run for office on their name without getting their permission.

Our sources within the CPP state that if a member expresses interest in running for any post within the party, they must adhere to the processes outlined in the Party’s constitution.

Our CPP sources claim that the Ejuisu constituency did not adhere to these structures.

To the best of the regional executives’ knowledge, the candidate is not a known member of the party in either the region or the constituency.

According to reports, the Ashanti Region wrote the Ashanti Region’s Electoral Commission to request that the candidate be disqualified on the grounds that she does not, as claimed, represent the party.

Nonetheless, there is information indicating that the candidate should not be disqualified after receiving a call from the national headquarters of the Electoral Commission.

The regional chairman is alleged to have followed up with calls, but the electoral commission persisted in their stance, acting as though they had a stake in the candidate’s victory.

In light of this, the CPP’s regional chairman has filed a lawsuit against the election commission
