Due to a lack of a quorum to make decisions, Speaker of the House Alban S.K. Bagbin has once again adjourned sessions indefinitely.

After a recall, Parliament met again Thursday morning.

The Speaker said he was forced to adjourn the house once more since the Business Committee had not brought anything to the table for the house to discuss and because of the current situation, he had to suspend the sittings indefinitely.

The legal battle between Parliament and the court over the speaker’s decision to declare four seats vacant has been in the news for a while.

On October 22, 2024, the Speaker adjourned the house indefinitely.

However, the Speaker of Parliament said last week that his office has already begun procedures to recall the House in early November in response to a request by Members of Parliament to do so after the indefinite adjournment.

The Speaker claims that the recall is being conducted in accordance with Standing Orders 5 and 53 and Article 112(3) of the Ghanaian Constitution, which provide the Speaker the authority to call Parliament as needed to serve the public interest.

The Accra International Conference Centre, which serves as a temporary location for Parliamentary sessions while the main House is being renovated, will host the session starting at 10 a.m.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has been asked by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Caucus in Parliament to call a meeting of Parliament to discuss pressing government issues.

They stated that in light of Standing Order 58 and the constitutional and statutory provisions of Article 112(3) of the Constitution, the Speaker is required to call a meeting of the House within seven days.

They felt that this would allow the government to fulfill its democratic and constitutional duties to the Ghanaian people.

A number of people who are all NPP Caucus members signed the petition.
