Following the discovery of mistakes and infractions on his nomination form, the Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC) disqualified Philip Appiah Kubi, the GFP’s new flagbearer.

At a news conference on Tuesday, November 12, EC Chair Jean Mensa disclosed this announcement.

The EC decided to exclude Kubi from running in the next election because, according to Jean Mensa, some anomalies could not be ignored, even though the party was given the opportunity to address these discrepancies.

The passing of Akua Donkor, the GFP’s original flagbearer and founding leader, was a significant blow to the organization at first.

The party had to scramble to recruit a substitute for the December 2024 presidential election after her untimely death on October 15. Kubi was appointed as a result of the EC giving the GFP a 10-day window to propose a new flagbearer.

But after reviewing it, the EC found a number of problems in Kubi’s documentation that went beyond straightforward typos.

While the party fixed some of the mistakes found, other components were judged “illegitimate” and could not be approved under the election regulations, according to EC Chair Jean Mensa.

Jean Mensa underlined that regardless of the party’s efforts to correct any errors, the EC’s mission to maintain the integrity of the electoral process forbids their adoption.
