Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate, feels optimistic about winning the contest.
After picking up his nomination form on Thursday at the NPP headquarters in Accra, his team announced this.
Since the party launched nominations, the flagbearer candidate who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central is the eighth individual to pick up the nomination forms.
Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign manager, Kwame Owusu, said in an interview with media that the party’s grassroots are drawn to the candidate because of what he called his disciplinary nature.
“We support grassroots movements. The people are enthusiastic about the values that honorable Ken upholds. The Honorable Ken does not support disobedience. Integrity means being honest in how one conducts one’s business with the nation. Honourable Ken has proven that he is so patriotic toward Ghana that he would die for the country.
People will typically enter and claim that he fails to adhere if they hear him speaking out loud or making a point. Naturally, he is not following the crowd because he represents the common man, and the common man does not follow the crowd.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former minister of food and agriculture, Boakye Agyarko, a former minister of energy, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a former member of parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimo, and economist Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku are other candidates who have already chosen their nomination forms.
The remaining candidates include Joe Ghartey, a former minister of railroads, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former member of parliament for Assin Central, and Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a former minister of trade and industry.
The primary election will be held on November 4, 2023, a Saturday.
