The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under fire from the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) since Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia declared his candidacy for the upcoming general elections in 2024.

The NPP’s decision to permit Dr. Bawumia to run for president, in the opinion of the GCPP, shows a lack of sincerity on the part of the party.

On Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Mr. Citizen Ato Dadzie, the General Secretary of the GCPP, voiced his reservations over Dr. Bawumia’s qualification for the president during the debate part of the Ghana Yensom morning program, which was hosted by Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra100.5FM.

Mr. Dadzie questioned the Vice President’s achievements during his term in office and made the implication that they were insufficient for him to be considered for the president.

Due to his apparent lack of accomplishments as the second in charge, he said that if the NPP were a real party, they would have stopped Dr. Bawumia from running in the presidential primary.

Mr. Dadzie also questioned how civil society could accept a leader who, in his perspective, had brought the nation’s economy under the control of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), casting doubt on Dr. Bawumia’s suitability to serve as the Head of the Economic Management Team.

He also questioned whether the vice president took pride in his accomplishments.

In light of the approaching general elections in 2024, the GCPP believes that the NPP and its vice president should place a higher priority on the issues and ambitions of the Ghanaian people.
