Today Monday, September 12, 2022, a few irate clients of the now-defunct gold collectible company Menzgold have been given notice to go to the president’s office to intervene in the payment of their locked-up monies.
According to the group, the walk will begin at the customs parking lot opposite the Ministry in Accra and proceed to Independence Square for a press conference before presenting a petition to the President at Jubilee House.
The Securities and Exchange Commission halted Menzgold’s operations in September 2018.
The Minerals Commission of Ghana initially issued the company with an operating license in 2014 that was primarily intended for gold export and dealing.
However, as rumors of a gold investment program with large returns began to spread, the Bank of Ghana started to issue warnings, advising people to avoid doing business with the firm and cautioning it against accepting cash deposits.
While the business also called the regulatory authorities’ bluff, some clients were determined.
Since the closure, Menzgold’s customers have been unable to access their deposits and have staged countless fruitless demonstrations at its various branches.
