Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the ruler of the Asante Kingdom, has received praise from the Minority in Parliament for his “Heal Komfo Anokye” project.

Raising USD 10 million is the initiative’s main objective in order to finance the much-needed renovations of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.

Twelve of Ghana’s sixteen regions use the hospital as a referral center, making it an essential healthcare facility.

During a news conference held in Parliament on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the Juaboso Member of Parliament (MP), Kwabena Mintah Akando, on behalf of the Minority on the Health Committee, conveyed gratitude for Otumfuo’s dedication to improving healthcare facilities.

Additionally, the Minority took use of the occasion to urge the administration to reconsider its priorities, especially with regard to important healthcare initiatives like the Komfo Anokye maternity block.

It is essential to note that the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) currently lacks working imaging equipment, according to the Minority Caucus. CT scans, MRIs, and even x-ray machines are not operating.”

“It is instructive to note that as of now, the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge) has no functional imaging equipment. Neither MRIs, CT-scans, or even x-ray machines are working” according to the Minority Caucus.

“This deplorable state of our hospitals jeopardises the health and well-being of our citizens but also undermines the credibility of our healthcare system.”

In order to draw attention to the problems facing the hospital infrastructure such as the shelved projects the Minority targeted on the Komfo Anokye maternity block.

The Minority invited other leaders to follow Otumfuo’s lead in addressing the nation’s pressing healthcare issues and urged Ghanaians to support his proposal.
