The Ashanti Region’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that a definitive decision regarding the party’s participation in the upcoming Ejisu by-election will be made on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

This statement is in response to the by-election that the Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled for April 30, 2024, following John Kumah’s death on March 7, 2024.

After a brief illness, 45-year-old John Kumah passed away, leaving behind his wife and six children.

The NDC’s Ashanti Regional Secretary, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, confirmed that the party will soon make clear its position on the election in an interview with Otec FM Prince Nii Ade(Dok Cash) on the afternoon flagship program dubbed ‘Dwaberem’.

He continued by saying that the party has already chosen a candidate for the district and is awaiting direction from the national executive.

“We in the NDC are far ahead in terms of the processes leading into this by-election and we have a candidate already.

“We were hoping and expecting to hear the date and the announcement that the seat is empty, so we hadn’t taken a hard position on whether or not we were participating earlier.

“Therefore, we have a lot of things on our desk that we are thinking through. I am confident that all of the research that has been done will guide us, and by Tuesday, we will be able to put an end to the discussion on whether or not we will be contesting,” he said.
