Pastor Love, the ex-husband of Ghanaian gospel artist Obaapa Christie, was sentenced to 48 months of hard labor in prison for theft.

Pastor Love, whose real name is Pastor Hammond Love, was given a 48-month jail term that includes hard labor.

Following a seven-year trial, Pastor Love was found guilty of the offense, according to GBC Ghana Online.

Pastor Love begged for forgiveness from the court before to his sentencing and said he would pay any fines that would be levied.

The fact that Pastor Love, who was found guilty, was a first-time offender was taken into account by the court presided over by Isaac Addo.

The court decided that as a Pastor, he was expected to keep a high level of integrity, especially in situations of trust, and so imposed him the 48-month jail term as a fair deterrence.

According to ASP Frimpong’s presentation of the case, in 2016 a US citizen named Samuel Amankwah brought a 4×4 car into Ghana and assigned Pastor Love the responsibility of clearing it via the port.

After the defendant paid for the automobile in question, the complainant instructed him to sell it for US$50,000 and reduce the amount he had paid in duties.

Later, the complainant advised Pastor Love to hold on with the sale of the vehicle as he would fly to Ghana and reimburse his money.

When the complainant arrived in Ghana in April 2017, he contacted Pastor Love regarding his car, but after many requests, he was unable to provide it.

In May 2017, when the complainant filed a police report, Pastor Love was taken into custody.

The guilty Pastor Love admitted to the police during questioning that he had obtained a GH¢40,000 loan with 20% interest to pay off the car and was accruing extra interest. As a result, he had sold the car for GH¢80,000 without the owner’s permission and paid GH¢70,000 to the loan firm.

Pastor Love, meantime, was unable to identify the car’s buyer and could not direct the police to the aforementioned lending business to confirm the claims.

The convict was dishonest to the court, according to the judge.
