Hon. Isaac Apaw Gyasi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the New Juaben South in the Eastern Region, has slammed detractors and urged them to avoid unwarranted criticism and help the government by paying taxes and property rates on time in order to fund national development initiatives.
The MCE adds that tax defaulters lack the moral standing to hold the government accountable for failing to carry out its obligations and that the assembly uses revenue from taxes and the property rate to support municipal projects.
He stated that only taxpayers should keep the government accountable in order to achieve this.
He stated that the assembly will implement measures to ensure the payment of taxes and that the irregular payment of taxes had a negative impact on the development of the municipality and Ghana in general.
On Monday, September 18, 2022, the Municipal Chief Executive led a delegation from the Assembly to engage locals in some chosen electoral Areas to discuss how to speed development in New Juaben South. The MCE made this information known to Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, a journalist for Afeema FM.
According to Isaac Apaw Gyasi, paying taxes is an important part of the Municipality’s development, thus people should be aware that this is a duty they have to the government.
He also reminds everyone who owns a home or company in the municipality to pay their basic rate and land poll.
When asked about the purpose of the trip, the MCE responded that it was crucial for leaders to interact with the locals in order to get their input on how to best tailor development to the needs of the populace.
In order to achieve growth, he claimed, a community-wide effort was necessary, and each individual must make an effort to do their part.
Assembly officials, assembly members, unit committee members, traditional leaders, healthcare professionals, the landlords association, and citizens from Magazine, Anlo-Town North and South electoral Areas attended the meeting.
Roads, poor school infrastructure, inconsistent water supply, restrooms, speed ramps, street lights, a footbridge, social security, and other social amenities are among the issues raised.
Benard Acheampong, who represents Anlo-Town North in the Assembly, expressed his happiness that the engagement gave the public a chance to directly discuss their problems while the Assembly worked to address those problems that needed to be addressed collectively.
For his part, the honorable Abu Amadu, an assemblyman from Anlo-Town South, stated that despite the numerous initiatives he had completed, there was still a sizable gap in meeting citizens’ needs. He urged the MCE to continue working to fill this gap.
Out of the 34 voting areas in New Juaben South, the Municipal Chief Executive has visited 17 so far.
