Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Deputy Clerk of Parliament, has been directed by Speaker of the House of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to return the Supreme Court’s ruling on the designation of four parliamentary seats as vacant.

The Speaker stated constitutional criteria for this move in a letter dated October 18 that was sent to the Supreme Court Registrar.

According to the letter, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, three bailiffs from the Supreme Court departed the procedures at the Parliamentary Service’s Legal Services Office.

Additionally, it mentions that on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, efforts were made to serve these processes.

Speaker Bagbin said that Article 117 of the 1992 Constitution was violated by the attempted service.

He cited a circular that was copied to the Honourable Lady Chief Justice and sent by the Judicial Secretary, Her Ladyship Cyra Pamela CA Korangten.

“Enforcement of Articles 117 and 118 of the Constitution – Immunity from Service of Process and Arrest” was the subject of this circular, which was dated July 12, 2024 and was recognized by reference number SCR9.

The Speaker reiterated in the letter’s conclusion how crucial it is to follow these basic principles.
