Dr. Bawumia pays courtesy call on Catholic Bishop of Sunyani

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia restated his pledge to lead an open-door government if elected, guaranteeing that all faith-based organizations will have equal and unrestricted access to his office, during a courtesy call on Wednesday, October 9, with the Most Rev. Mathew Kwesi Gyamfi, the President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference and the Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese.

He also reiterated his determination to designate all faith-based organizations, including the church, as important development partners.

His commitment to fortifying ties between the state and religious institutions was highlighted by the visit, which occurred prior to his campaign in the Bono Region.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of the church in the advancement of the country while asking the bishop for prayers and spiritual blessings.

He emphasized that religious organizations, such as the Catholic Church, will be important in forming public policy and advancing national development.

The Vice President stated that working with faith-based groups will be essential to tackling important societal challenges and fostering unity within the country.

“I intend to run an open-door government in which all faith-based organisations will have equal and frequent access to my office as president so we can collaboratively work for the development of Ghana,” he assured.

On his part, the Catholic Bishop expressed his deep appreciation for the Vice President’s visit, noting that it was the first time any sitting vice president had called on him.

He commended Dr. Bawumia’s approach to engaging with religious leaders and acknowledged the importance of maintaining a close relationship between the government and the church.

The Bishop emphasised that the church is committed to working alongside the government to ensure inclusive and sustainable development.

The Bishop also reaffirmed the church’s dedication to supporting initiatives that foster peace, education, and social progress.

He noted that by partnering with the government, the church could continue to play a pivotal role in uplifting communities and contributing to the nation’s growth.

Both leaders agreed on the need for ongoing collaboration to address pressing national challenges and promote holistic development across Ghana.
