The Ashanti Regional commander of the Forestry Commission of Ghana, Mr. Augustine Kofi Gyedu, has stated that the Ashanti Regional branch has been given 4million tress out of the 20million tress that have been said to be planted amidst this campaign of Green Ghana Project by the president of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mr.Gyedu added that they have been able to distribute about 1.7million tress out of the 4million given to them including trees with edible fruits.
Addressing the press at the Ashanti Regional secretariat ahead of the Green Ghana Project scheduled on Friday, June 10 he said,2million out of the total number of the tress would be planted in our forest reserves and the rest would be distributed to various assemblies and farmers who want to plant them in their farms.
He urged all Ghanaians to take part in this campaign of Green Ghana Project especially those in the Ashanti Region to make the program a successful one.
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, 1st March 2022, released the 2022 version of “Green Ghana Day”, with a dedication to planting a few 20 million trees this year, as a part of Government’s competitive afforestation and reforestation programme.
Speaking on the occasion held on the Accra International Conference Centre, President Akufo-Addo said that despite the fact that the goal of the maiden version of Green Ghana Day, held 2021, become a few five million trees, a complete of seven million timber had been planted.
