At Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match between the Black Stars and Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, President John Dramani Mahama has promised to be present.
Mahama admitted to being anxious about watching live football games while visiting the squad’s training session, but he gave the players his support.
“I’ll take time off and watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer, I will brave it. They say I should eat before I go and sit down. And my hope is that you would justify my sitting and watching you guys. The whole of Ghana is going to be behind you, and I’m sure that you can make it,” Mahama stated.
“The whole of Ghana will be behind you, and I’m sure that you can, you can make it,” he emphasized further. I will therefore support the management committee and the GFA.We will collaborate closely with you in order to set the stage for the performances of not just the Black Stars but all of the other young teams.”
Notably, Mahama’s presence will be the first time in recent memory that an incumbent president has gone to a Black Stars game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
With nine points, the Black Stars are now in third place in Group I. They will want to win as many games as possible against Madagascar on March 24 in Morocco and Chad on March 21 in Accra.
