With 17 votes out of the 28 total cast in the first round of voting, businessman Maxwell Boakye, who is headquartered in Tarkwa, has won the Western Regional Council of State election.
In a race that demonstrated the region’s political involvement and the rising call for young representation in government, 32-year-old Maxwell Boakye defeated eight other contenders.
Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah emerged as the closest candidate with 10 votes in the contested election, while Adjei Clement received only one vote.
Due to the inability of the other six contenders to garner any votes, Boakye’s victory was essentially decisive.
Boakye, who is from Sameraboi, thanked the delegates for giving him the opportunity to represent the region on the Council of State after he was announced as the winner.
He emphasized the need for more young participation in regional and national politics and policymaking in his victory address.
