Akufo-Addo appoints Kwame Agyei as new Controller and Accountant-General

President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Kwasi Agyei, a chartered accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, as the next acting Controller and Accountant-General.

Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant-General (CAG) for almost five years, resigned, and he was appointed in her place.

Following a brief handover ceremony last Monday at the Treasury head office in Accra, Mr. Agyei took on his new post. He expressed gratitude to the former controller for his outstanding leadership, from which he claimed to have learned a great deal.

In a statement released to the Daily Graphic and signed by the Controller and Accountants-General’s Head of Public Relations, Cephas N. Dosoo, expressed Mr. Agyei’s gratitude to President Akufo-Addo and Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam for the chance to serve the country in this capacity.

Mr. Agyei asked for the cooperation and commitment of every department employee, acknowledging that they all had obligations and difficulties ahead of them.

He made it clear that he placed a high priority on staff welfare, saying that any organization’s ability to succeed was mainly dependent on how happy and content its employees were. In order to sustain high productivity and accomplish goals, he promised to establish an environment at work that valued employee welfare, acknowledged accomplishments, and promoted growth.

In order to make CAGD a better place for everyone, Mr. Agyei asked all department employees to support him.

The acting CAG’s appointment from within the department excited outgoing Controller and Accountant-General Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, who felt it would inspire employees.

Under his direction, there have been significant technology advancements and advancements in payroll, national accounts, and public financial management policies and programs, among other areas. Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem thanked stakeholders for their support.

The staff will help Mr. Agyei in his new post, the Deputy Controller in charge of Audit and Investigations, Wisdom Komlan Messan, said, thanking the outgoing controller for his outstanding leadership.

On Monday, April 15, 2024, Mr. Kwasi Agyei took official office. He brings with him more than two decades of experience working in government. Having earned degrees in accounting and finance, economics, and management, he had previously held positions as deputy controller and accountant general overseeing the Treasury. He has also held important roles in other organizations and served on a number of boards.
