Four charges of stealing and dishonestly receiving have been brought against the four people who were detained for stealing the Electoral Commission’s Biometric Voter Registration kits.

They have been remanded into Police custody.

Out of the accused, three work for the Electoral Commission, and one is a student. Three members of the election commission staff are laborer Philip Lartey, security officer Benyamin Fianyi, and database administrator Joseph Blankson Adumadzie.

The commission has charged three of its employees with theft and conspiracy to steal, while Clifford Yeboah, the student, has been charged with dishonestly receiving.

To the counts, the four have entered a not guilty plea. Five Dell laptops, which are a component of the Biometric Voter Registration kits that include a laptop, printer, scanner, battery, and biometric device, were reported stolen, according to the case’s facts.

But after more research, the student who is the fourth accused was found to have three HP laptops. The security guard yielded one HP printer and three printer chargers for biometric verification devices.

The incident happened on March 9, 2024, when commission officials trusted a few temporary employees and security guards from the election management body to relocate some of their items from their former head office at Ridge to one of their warehouses at Spintex, according to the police inquiry.

The second and third accused parties are alleged to have started the scheme to steal some HP printers.

It is stated that the third defendant took an HP printer out of one of the kit boxes and gave it to A2.

After that, A2 stole three printer chargers for biometric verification devices, and A1 stole three HP laptops from the kit boxes so that A4 could keep one and fix the other two.
