I’m upset that some teachers haven’t received payment in seven months-Education Minister

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has reassured teachers who haven’t received pay in the last seven months that the government will pay any arrears owed to them.

Due to delays in completing their biometric registration, which would allow them to obtain their staff identity numbers, some instructors have been claiming that they are unable to receive their salaries.

Tell them I’m sorry, Adutwum remarked in response to the situation on Wednesday’s (27 July) Asaase Breakfast Show.

It shouldn’t be like this.

I requested information from the Ghana Education Service (GES) about how many people have identity cards and how many do not.

When I arrive to the office, I’ll check to make sure that this is handled properly, Adutwum continued.

“It is regrettable.Anyone working for seven months, not just seven months, shouldn’t be expected to be less productive because they aren’t being paid. It’s unfortunate that you have to pay them while the production is lost”.

“We have discussed that it shouldn’t take more than three months,” Adutwum continued.

The fact that instructors have not received payment for seven months upsets me greatly. Stressed-out teachers are not something I like.
