The Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service has received notice from the Minority Leader of Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson, that a public demonstration will take place on September 5, 2023.

The goal of this demonstration, according to Ato Forson, is to demonstrate outrage about the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) illicit printing of money (around GHc80 billion) between 2021 and 2022 for the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government, which resulted in a hyperinflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022.

He claimed that this one-off action by BoG had a detrimental effect on enterprises and livelihoods, pushing around 850,000 Ghanaians into poverty in just 2022.

According to the Minority Leader they will converge at the Frontage of Parliament House – Osu Cemetery Traffic Light – Ministry of Finance – High Court Complex – Kinbu – Makola – Rawlings Park – Opera square – Bank of Ghana.

“As representatives of the Ghanaian people, the Minority in Parliament is totally disgusted by the crass mismanagement and reckless mishandling of the affairs of the Bank of Ghana, which resulted in a gargantuan loss of GHc60.8 billion and a negative equity of GHc55.1 billion in 2022, with its attendant hardships on Ghanaians.

“We are further protesting the many acts of financial malfeasance by the Governor, his Deputies and Directors of the Bank of Ghana as contained in the 2022 Annual Report and Financial Statement of the Bank.
