For the 2024–2025 academic year, the MTN Ghana Foundation is accepting applications for its Bright Scholarship program from students seeking undergraduate degrees, vocational training, or technical skills training at any of Ghana’s public tertiary institutions. The deadline for applicants to submit their applications is May 31, 2024.

Applicants must be Ghanaians, have outstanding academic records, be of good behavior, and have no criminal records in order to be considered for selection. For the 2024–2025 academic year, 200 scholarships will be given out by the MTN Ghana Foundation. The only way for eligible candidates to apply is through the website scholarship.mtn.com.gh.

No hardcopy applications will be accepted. The scholarship award is free, and under no circumstances will MTN Foundation request for payment for the submission, processing, or selection of applicants. Any request for payment must therefore immediately be reported to the specified media contacts or the MTN Foundation.

The MTN Bright Scholarship seeks to ease the financial burden on students by catering for the cost of tuition, accommodation, providing a stipend for books and laptops for the beneficiaries. Commenting on the Scholarship, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer for MTN Ghana emphasized its benefits and the immense impact that it has made over the years in the lives of its beneficiaries. She said, “The increasing cost of tertiary education in Ghana is a major challenge for many low-income parents and an obstacle to quality education for brilliant students in need. The MTN Ghana Foundation’s scholarship program makes a real difference by empowering beneficiaries to achieve their educational aspirations and giving them a better chance of fulfilling their potential.”

The commencement of the MTN Bright Scholarship in 2018 was in fulfilment of a commitment MTN made to Ghanaians during the commemoration of its 20th Anniversary in 2016. During the celebrations, MTN, through the MTN Ghana Foundation, promised to award a total of 300 scholarships over a period of three years.

The MTN Ghana Foundation chose to extend the scholarship program in 2021 during MTN’s 25th anniversary celebration, taking into account the tremendous influence the scholarships had on the recipients’ lives after the first three years. Over a fifteen-year span, the MTN Ghana Foundation has given over a thousand scholarships to students ranging from elementary school to university education. In addition to the Bright Scholarship, the MTN Ghana Foundation established the Teacher Improvement Award Program in 2015 to provide financial support to public school teachers who want to pursue graduate or postgraduate degrees.
