President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo has sent his sincere sympathies to Turkey in the wake of Monday’s devastating earthquake.
The accident left more than 1,300 people dead and 6,000 wounded, according to the authorities.
A few hours after the first earthquake, a 7.5 magnitude aftershock hit southern Turkey.
Reports state that it was once more felt in Iraqi Kurdistan and Syria.
Christian Atsu, a forward for Ghana, was involved in the catastrophe at the same time.
The former Chelsea player is apparently stuck beneath debris after being caught in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, and search and rescue operations are in progress.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the Governments and peoples of Turkey and Syria on the devastation and the tragic loss of lives occasioned by Monday’s earthquake. May their souls rest in perfect peace.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the survivors, and we pray that our fellow Ghanaian, Christian Atsu, is found safe and sound,” a message posted on Facebook.
On Sunday, Atsu, a player for Turkish Süper Lig team Hatayspor, scored a goal late to earn a 1-0 victory over Kasimpasa.
