Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the NPP Flagbearer in the 2024 elections, has responded to the 2024 election results and the party’s defeat.
In a statement released on December 11, NAPO, as he is affectionately called, stated that the NPP accepted the Ghanaians’ decision and did not anticipate losing the election by such a large majority.
In order to choose its course of action, the party will reorganize and consider its defeat, according to the MP of the Manhyia South constituency.
NAPO thanked Dr. Bawumia and the party members for the honor of serving as his running mate in the 2024 elections.
“The 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections resulted in a victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This was not the outcome we, in the NPP, envisaged; but we respect the verdict of the Ghanaian people.
“To Ghanaians, we have heard you clearly and with humility we accept. We will work with you to get it right,” he stated.
“I have had extensive discussions with our flag bearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to reflect on the outcome of the elections and, in good time, we shall reflect further as a political party on the causes of our 2024 election loss.
“I am grateful to HE the Vice-President for nominating me as his running mate, and to the NPP leadership for the overwhelming support I received,” he added.
Many have claimed that the party’s dismal election defeat represents Ghanaians’ actual assessment of Akufo-Addo’s leadership.
However, the party will “emerge stronger, and bounce back to win the trust, confidence, support, and affection of Ghanaians,” according to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
