The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) deputy general secretary, Mr. Mustapha Gbande, has strongly warned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) against any purported attempts to influence the results of the general elections scheduled for December 7.

Mr. Gbande issued a warning, saying that the NDC would not stand for what he called the NPP’s purported wrongdoing to occur again in the 2020 elections.

Mr. Gbande said he was confident the NDC will be on guard during this election season and ready to defend the people’s will no matter what.

He declared that the NDC will react “squarely” to any attempts to use force to sabotage the election process.

Mr. Gbande stated that the NDC has no plans to rely exclusively on the Electoral Commission, arguing that the commission has not proven to be fair in previous elections, while stressing that the party does not wish to disturb the peace and security the nation enjoys.

Mr. Gbande went on to say that the NDC, which is led by former President John Dramani Mahama, is dedicated to holding peaceful elections and does not want Ghana to experience instability or violence.

He was interviewed by Kessben FM, which is situated in Accra.

He emphasized that “one-man-one-vote” is the party’s guiding principle and that the NDC’s strategy is founded on guaranteeing “justice and fairness” in the electoral process.

Additionally, Mr. Gbande denied that the military was necessary for the electoral process, stating that any attempt to sway the vote through the use of security forces would be met with dire repercussions.

He explained that, in contrast to 2020, the NDC would make sure that every vote is correctly counted and validated at the polling stations rather than depending on the legal system. He cautioned that without this, the inevitable will happen.

His remarks come after the NDC recently said that justice had not been served for the innocent victims killed in the 2020 elections and declined to sign a peace agreement mediated by the National Peace Council.
