AG’s report cites over 6,800 companies, businesses and individuals who owe Gh¢ 111m in taxes

According to 13,721 selected tax files from 21 Domestic Tax Revenue Offices of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in the Greater Accra Region, 6,856 businesses, legal entities, and people owed GH111,652,263.00 in corporate and individual income taxes for the assessment years of 2019, 2020, and 2021, according to the Auditor-Report General’s for 2021.

A person who fails to pay tax by the due date is subject to interest charges for each month or portion of a month that any portion of the tax is past due, according to Section 71 of the Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915).

In addition, Section 80 of Act 915 requires the Commissioner-General to take legal action to recover any unpaid taxes.

In its report, the A-G recommended the Commissioner to step up enforcement efforts in order to recoup all unpaid taxes.
