The High Court in Accra convicted 47-year-old Burkinabe Boigouna Aloys guilty of murdering his German wife and their daughter in Kokrobitey, Accra, and sentenced him to life in prison.
Following a lengthy trial, a seven-member jury unanimously found him guilty on two counts of murder, leading to his conviction.
Sensing that their 14-year-old daughter would report the incident to the authorities, the prisoner allegedly struck the late wife, Claudia Weizmann, 53, in the head with a hammer and strangled her to death.
Five witnesses were summoned by the prosecution, headed by Assistant State Attorney Yvonne Yaachie-Adomako, in order to support their claims.
When the presiding judge, Justice Mary Maame Ekue Yanzuh, asked the convicted man if he had anything to say prior to his conviction, Aloys replied that he had nothing to say.
According to the police after the crime was committed, Boigouna Aloys, who was 43 at the time, buried the two at the farthest end of their ten-lot parcel of property in Kokrobitey, Accra, to allay suspicions.
Aloys was arrested as a result of the police being notified by neighbors who saw the German mother and her daughter abruptly depart and smelled like a putrid animal coming from the suspect’s home.
According to the police, they accused the Burkinabe of killing his wife and daughter after their investigations revealed that the stink was that of a person.
The suspect has since admitted to the crime and stated that he killed the wife instantly by striking her in the head with a hammer following a misunderstanding. He then strangled the 14-year-old girl to death out of fear that she would tell the police about it, and he buried the two on their compound.
Following their marriage in Germany, the Baukinabe made the decision to go to Ghana.
The couple and their daughter reportedly came in the nation in January 2020 and have been residing in their three-bedroom apartment on a ten-lot parcel of property in Kokrobitey ever since.
