The Gender-based Circuit Court in Accra remanded a 36-year-old father into police prison on charges that he had sex with his 13-year-old daughter through her anus and vagina.
Three preliminary charges of incest, defilement, and unnatural canal knowledge of his daughter were brought against Isaac Tettey, a reputed dealer.
He was remanded to appear again on October 3 for his plea in front of the court, which was presided over by Her Honor Mrs. Christiana Cann on Monday, September 26.
As the victim was in the middle of her monthly period when she was transported to the hospital, the prosecutor, DSP Agnes Boafo, had previously informed the court that the victim had not yet undergone a medical examination.
“My Lord, we do not intend to take the plea of the accused. We sent the victim to the hospital and she is menstruating and the medical doctor said that they cannot examine her until the blood flow stops,” DSP Boafo pleaded.
The accused is remanded into police custody to appear before the court again on October 3, 2022, for the taking of his plea, the judge declared after hearing the prosecutor.
According to the brief summary of the case given to the court by DSP Boafo, the complainant is the 13-year-old victim (name withheld) who has lived with her biological father (suspect Isaac Tetteh) in Kaneshie near Dansoman station for the past five years.
The victim was asleep in the year 2021 when she felt an odd feeling, according to the prosecution, who also claims that the suspect, a merchant, sleeps in the same bed as the victim.
The victim was having sex with the suspect through her anus and vagina when she woke up, according to the prosecutor. This continued until May 2022, when the victim’s aunty Gladys noticed that the victim could not walk properly and interviewed the victim.
She claimed that the victim told her Aunty Gladys about her experience, and after getting the bad news, the victim confronted the suspect, who denied having intercourse with the victim.
According to DSP Boafo, the girl began sleeping with her aunt or grandmother to get away from her father, which made the suspect angry.
Because the victim refused to sleep in the suspect’s room, the prosecutor claimed that the suspect would either insult the victim or beat her without any justification.
The victim was beaten by the suspect on September 22, 2022, at around 6:30 p.m., and she reported the incident to Kaneshie DOVVSU (Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit).
Suspect was detained to conduct an investigation.
The victim was given a police medical report form to be carried to the hospital for evaluation, treatment, and police endorsement.
