The Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC) has urged political parties to urge its followers who are eligible to vote but are not registered to vote to do so during the approaching voter registration drive.
The decision was reached by the EC during a news conference on September 8, 2022, in Accra.
“We expect all the participants in the electoral process, including political parties, to encourage all those who do not have Ghana Cards to visit the offices of the National Identification Authority and register for the Ghana Card,” said Samuel Tettey, the commission’s deputy chairman in charge of operations.
In order to allow qualified voters to participate in the registration process, the EC further requested that the National Identification Authority (NIA) facilitate fast printing of the Ghana Card.
“Once more, we request that the NIA quicken the production of the Ghana Card in order to make it simple for everyone interested in registering with us to do so.”
The EC has stated that during the voter registration process, it will only accept the Ghana Card as a form of identification.
